Timing matters when logging a change into the system to be evaluated for its potential impact on the budget.
Those closer to the work itself can spot such a shift in scope, cost or schedule, often before anyone else does.
However, many of them have had no direct access to Contruent’s Control Center, where these changes get evaluated and tracked. That access has typically stayed with project controls teams and a smaller group of power users, which has meant anyone who observes a potential change has had to relay that information to them before it can enter the change management workflow and become part of the record.
While that process has worked, passing the baton this way can introduce friction.
There’s now another way in.
Trend Creation—Now From the Web Portal
Contruent has updated who can capture and input changes, expanding participation in the process through a web-based experience. The web portal now supports the same governed trend management process that has resided within Control Center, so new contributors won’t be required to use Control Center to take part.
A trend is a potential change still under evaluation, not yet a confirmed adjustment to the budget. These can now be raised and acted on by a broader range of roles, from project managers and field teams to owner representatives and executive approvers.
That means fewer steps stand between spotting a potential change and logging it into the system, and less reliance on project controls teams and power users to do that inputting on others’ behalf.
Stephen Hogg, Senior Project Controls Lead from McArther River Mine said, “Contruent Enterprise makes it easier for our project controls team to capture potential changes early and understand their possible cost and schedule impacts. Because trends are easy to access and update, we can assess a change before committing to it, then modify, cancel or submit it for approval as the situation evolves.”
The Process Stays Intact
None of this changes what project controls teams already rely on. Workflow structure, governance, accountability and visibility all stay exactly as they’ve been, and trends raised from the web portal enter the same shared project record, not a separate one. This gives project controls teams one place to evaluate potential cost and schedule impacts.
That’s important. A disconnected intake form or a parallel record would weaken the single, reliable source of truth project controls teams depend on. When every trend lives in one place, nothing has to be reconciled across systems later. Instead, every trend, regardless of who raises it, moves through the same governed process, with the same approvals and the same oversight already in place.
Control Center processes continue to run exactly as they have. Nothing about this update asks project controls teams to rebuild or replace the foundation they’ve already trusted. Rather, it extends who can contribute to that foundation without altering what it is.
Broader Participation, Same Governance
More people can take part. Getting a potential change logged into the system for evaluation takes fewer steps. And nothing about how it’s governed has changed. For customers already on the platform, that means room to involve a wider circle in change management, all within the established process.
